Fresco pictography on lime (fresco). Original work: fresco, c. 60 AD, Pompeii, Great Gymnasium
Description
The frescoes of Moregine, found in the Roman villa known as "dei Triclini", are located near the ancient walls of Pompeii and were discovered in 1959 during the construction of the Naples-Salerno motorway. These works, dating back to the Neronian era, depict various deities and muses and are currently preserved and exhibited in the Great Gym of Pompeii. The architectural complex of Moregine is located outside the walls of Pompeii, about 600 meters south of Porta Stabian. Here, at the mouth of the Sarno river, the ancient villa was found, which includes a porticoed courtyard overlooking at least five frescoed tricliniums, used as formal dining rooms, as well as baths under construction. The first Triclinium is characterized by three walls decorated with images of the muses and Apollo.
Information
