Pietro di Domenico da Montepulciano, Madonna of Humility
299,00 € iva inclusa
Oil pictograph on old panel with gold background and hot chalk reliefs. Original work: New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MoMA)
Description
This painting is notable for the refinement of its designs freely worked on the gold earth. The painting alludes to the humility of the Madonna (she is seated on the grass) and her roles as Queen of Heaven (the angels carved on the golden background suspend a crown over her) and to the beloved enclosed in a garden. It unveils her sleeping baby, an allusion to her future sacrifice and death. It is one of the most beautiful works by Pietro di Domenico, active in the Marche region. Exceptionally, the painting survives intact with its original committed frame decorated with a continuous floral motif and the artist's signature.
Information
The work is executed through the technique of Pictography according to ancient methods and natural materials; it is handmade entirely in Umbria.
