Fresco pictography on lime (fresco). Original work: 1897, Florence, Private Collection
Description
The Madonnina is the world-famous painting to which Ferruzzi's name is linked. With this painting Ferruzzi won the second Venice Biennale in 1897, in which he had participated with the intention of representing Maternity. Thanks to the extraordinary expressive sweetness, the painting was a huge success, so much so that the original name of Maternity was changed to Madonnina. This painting is also known by several names: Madonnina, Madonna and Child, Madonna of Rest, Madonna of the Ways, Madonna of Tenderness, Madonnella, Zingarella. The painting is said to be in a private collection in Pennsylvania, but its exact location is unknown. According to a descendant of the painter, the painting was instead lost during a crossing of the Atlantic from Europe to the United States.
