Description
The contrast of the heliotropic palette and red paths is enlivened by a flower garden and that piece of opaque green that is visible in the background. Monet preferred not the chaotic arrangement of the flower beds, but their precise geometry. And here, the iris plants are planted in regular strips, like a layer cake with plums – a layer of dough, a layer of berries. A lovely color scheme leaves no room for black charcoal soot. In fact, this was the idea of the early Impressionists: no darkness and tar.
