Fresco pictography on lime (fresco). Original work: oil on panel, 1521, Florence, Uffizi Gallery
Description
The Musical Angel is one of the painter's most famous paintings. The protagonist is a little angel intent on arpeggio a lute apparently too large, with his ear resting on the instrument to see the correct execution of the notes and his right hand plucking the strings emitting the sound. The curly red hair recalls that of the author himself, while the wings that unfold from the putto's back are white on the outside and red on the entire part. Touches of red are also traceable on the nose and cheeks to accentuate the contrast of warm and cold tones that enliven the chromatic orchestration. Especially interesting is the dark background below which inscriptions have been found that refer to the history of the painting.
Information
The work is executed through the technique of Pictography, according to ancient methods and natural materials; it is handmade entirely in Umbria.
