Fra Angelico, Christ the Judge

Description

Christ, with a violet robe and blue mantle bordered with gold and with a crucisified halo, is depicted in the center of the sail, seated on a cloud and surrounded by an almond. The bearded redeemer appears with his right arm raised upwards, in the typical attitude of the Judgment, while with his left arm he supports the cruciferous globe placed on his knee. On the sides of the mandorla are two ranks of Angels with colorful robes edged in gold, depicted in the act of prayer, while two other angels close the composition at the extreme corners of the sail.
