121,00 € iva inclusa
Pictography on canvas and panel. Original work: oil on canvas, 1900, Paris, Musée d'Orsay
Description
The subject of the painting is inspired by the Japanese-style garden, i.e. without depth . The arched bridge with a single span crosses the lily pond. Dense vegetation, high on the shore, shines under the rays of the sun that penetrate from the willow fronds on the banks of the stream. Among the green of the leaves, the pink flowers of the water lilies stand out. Meaning is the alternation of colors on the water and on the banks. The water lily pond, harmony in pink, was purchased in 1900 by Durand-Ruel. After a further passage to Count Camondo, it was donated to the Louvre where it was exhibited from 1914. From 1947 to 1986 it was part of the works of the Galerie du Jeu de Paume in Paris, finally it was assigned to the Musée d'Orsay.
