121,00 € iva inclusa
Fresco pictography on lime (fresco). Original work: fresco, c. 1440, Florence, Museo di San Marco
Description
In this fresco, the Apostles are seated in a row at the L-shaped table, and four of them, who were seated on the front benches, are kneeling and set aside to facilitate the view of the scene. On the left is the Virgin Mary, also kneeling. The spatial rendering is remarkable, with figures well calibrated according to the ideal distance. The scene conveys a sense of stillness, being essentially intended to inspire meditation and prayer. This new phase of Angelico's art was certainly influenced by the particular destination of the rooms, where the monks lived a life of contemplation, prayer and meditation. The figures are sober and simplified, the colors are delicate and soft, but with a lower and duller range than the works on wood.
Information
