Pictography on canvas and panel. Original work: oil on canvas, 1883, Paris, Musée d'Orsay
Description
The subject of the work is a couple who are dancing in the shade of a chestnut tree; the two people who are the protagonists of the painting are also respectively a friend and the other the future wife of the painter. The space that is reserved for the two figures is really a lot, to the point that the woman's dress does not completely enter the canvas; Despite the size of the two characters we can still notice some elements of the setting, such as the table that is to the right of the woman with some object on it and you can also see a hat that is instead located in the lower right part on the ground. The atmosphere of Dance in the Country is happy and carefree, and you can guess it from the colors that are used by the painter himself, namely red and yellow that dominate both the women's clothing and also on the latter's fan, and also from the smile of the latter that she throws at the viewer, giving the feeling that the latter is right there to observe the couple having fun while dancing.
