Fresco pictography on lime (fresco). Original work: oil on canvas, 1888, Otterlo, Kröller-Muller Museum
Description
A farmer walks along a large piece of land into which a small dirt path enters. The sower advances to the right scattering the seeds. With his left hand, on the other hand, he holds a bundle on his shoulders from which he draws to sow. He wears work clothes and a hat that protects him from the sun. The land has been ploughed and the clods cover the soil entirely. Some birds flocked to feed on the newly fallen seeds. In the background, moreover, the golden ears of corn not yet harvested rise. On the right, beyond the stems, you can see the top of the trees of a grove. On the left, on the other hand, a small house and two saplings seem to float on wheat. Finally, in the center, the large disk of the sun sets and illuminates the entire scene in yellow.
