Description
The painting St. Michael the Archangel is placed in the first chapel on the right side of the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione of the Capuchins or of Santa Maria Immacolata in Via Veneto and depicts the Archangel Michael defeating Lucifer. The work of St. Michael the Archangel structure diagonally, and starts from the right arm upwards while holds the sword and culminates in the left foot that crushes the head of Lucifer, submissive to the ground. The chromatic intensity is expressed in the shades of blue and silver, while balance and harmony of classicism is revealed in the beauty of the Archangel Michael, the candid and youthful face, golden hair vibrating in the wind, grace of the figure and the soft robes. Finally, the wings of the Archangel Michele delimit the width of the canvas.
Information
The work is made through the technique of Pictography, according to ancient methods and natural materials; it is handmade entirely in Umbria.
Each frame is made of solid wood, with an interlocking joint; the first primer is based on Bologna gypsum and natural glue; the later are in tempera. The decoration is handmade and, usually, it is studied on the work it will contain. The design is inspired by the museum frames of the various eras.
