Gentile da Fabriano, Madonna and Child (option 3, part.)
299,00 € iva inclusa
Oil pictograph on old panel with gold background and hot chalk reliefs. Original work: tempera on panel, 1425, London, National Gallery
Description
The present panel certainly represents the central element of the polyptych (it should be remembered that the complex was dismembered before 1836). In the cusp, in a tondo above two angels – and in turn surmounted by a seraph – appears the half-figure of the blessing Christ. In the dark background, the golden flowers stand out, which are not at all able to attenuate the delicate sweetness given by Gentile to this Madonna. An exquisiteness certainly deriving from the artist's strong ties with contemporary Florentine painting, the one still Gothic, even if already somewhat influenced by the powerful Masaccio winds.
Information
The work is executed through the technique of Pictography according to ancient methods and natural materials; it is handmade entirely in Umbria.
