Benozzo Gozzoli, Procession of the Magi (panel, detail)
231,00 € iva inclusa
Oil pictography on panel. Original work: c. 1459, Florence, Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Description
The frescoes unfold scenographically around the viewer and one has the impression of admiring the procession without interruption, from within a curve of its course. The main subject of this cycle is the Procession of the Magi, which occupies the three walls of the main hall, which is flanked, above the doors of the sacristies, by the frescoes with the shepherds waiting for the announcement. The small scarsella is decorated with the adoring Angels on the sides of the walls and the symbols of the four Evangelists behind the altar. However, the narrative begins outside the room, precisely above the door through which the small vestibule leads to the chapel, where the Agnus Dei is depicted.
Information
The work is created through the technique of Pictography, according to the ancient methods and natural materials; is handmade entirely in Umbria.
Each frame is made of solid wood, with an interlocking joint; the first primer is based on Bologna gypsum and natural glue; the later are in tempera. The decoration is handmade and, usually, it is studied on the work it will contain. The design is inspired by the museum frames of the various eras.
