Pictography on canvas and panel with solid wood frame. Original work: oil on panel, 1501-1504, Caen, Musée des Beaux-Arts, 1501-1504
Description
St. Joseph is to the left of the priest. The Saint wears a yellow dress and leads the male wedding procession. Maria, on the other hand, is on the right and some young women accompany her. The building that forms the backdrop to the scene is reminiscent of the temple in Jerusalem. A flight of steps then elevates the temple which has prothyria on four sides built with round arches and surmounted by small domes. In correspondence with the prothyria there are then four portals characterized by identical tympanums. On the sides without a portal there are also blind arches. The temple with a central plan is structured on two floors separated by a string course. The second floor is therefore decorated with pilasters, window sill and cornice. On the walls there are some rectangular windows surmounted by an arched tympanum. Above the walls there is an architectural element called the crowning. This part of the temple is its roof and consists of the brick tile dome and a walkway protected by a balustrade.
