In the past, the Rest during the flight into Egypt was then correctly attributed to Francesco Mancini, a An artist born in the Marche region but Emilian by training, active in papal territory in the first half of the eighteenth century. Among its Mancini had a singular position, elaborating a a completely personal language that is a synthesis of baroque and rococo, a painting characterized by ease and fluency as well as by a fluid and vital chromatic material. Rest it was purchased in 1772 by Clement XIV (pontiff from 1769 to 1774) with two other paintings of mythological subjects by the same author.
